Our journey to a permanent church in Washington, DC

We want to be deeply rooted in Northeast Washington, DC as a living mosaic of God’s grace for the flourishing of our neighbors.

Our Foundation

While Grace Mosaic is currently celebrating our 10th anniversary as a congregation, our decade-long journey is one of the Lord’s faithfulness, from small seeds to a rooted family and growing garden.

  • Planting a Seed

We were the third congregation planted within the Grace DC Network of churches and began to meet on Tuesday evenings during the Winter of 2013. By September 2014, we began meeting every Sunday morning for worship.

  • Sustained in Different Soils

As we look back over the last decade, we have called four different locations our temporary “home.” Though each of these four spaces were located within our target area of ministry, each has come with substantial challenges that have affected our mission. Yet, in the midst of these struggles, the Lord has taught us to rely on him and joyfully embrace the wisdom, timing, and providence of his provision. Not only has the Lord taught us, but he has also used us in powerful and beautiful ways.

  • Bearing Fruit

The Lord has answered our faith with the very fruit that we have prayed for over these 10 years! The reputation of Grace Mosaic among our non-Christian neighbors has come out in the way that many of them have described us as “The Generous Church” and others as “The Party Church.” We can hardly think of a more welcome description, as we have always made it our mission to bring the life of the kingdom of God into our shared life in Northeast DC so that our neighbors can “Taste and see that the Lord is good.”

  • Deepening Our Roots

Our members have grown in grace and have been strengthened in the Lord, while our non-Christian neighbors have found our community a good place to explore faith, to scrutinize faith, and, for some, to actually come to faith. To borrow the words of theologian Christine D. Phol, our best testimony to the truth of the gospel has been the quality of our life together—and our Ward 5 neighbors have been watching and growing more open and curious about this good news that animates our life together. The Dechurched of our place have found our community to be a place of reconnection and healing. The children of the church have not only expressed a robust and compelling faith, but also a love for Christ’s church. We are simply amazed by the Lord’s goodness to us.

  • Gathering Gardeners

With this exciting growth, we’ve invited new co-laborers onto the team to share in this work. We added our second full-time pastor in 2018 and our first additional full-time staff member in 2019. Even amidst the challenging pandemic years, God continued to graciously grow our congregation. We now have three full-time staff and four part-time staff. We have seen a consistent rise in attendance and giving, especially after the height of the pandemic. Mosaic now has a vibrant congregation of 203 members (122 adults, 81 children).

  • Growing our Garden

Though we have been hard at work in D.C. for 10 years and have witnessed incredible fruit, we sincerely believe that this is only the beginning of what the Lord will do with Grace Mosaic. So, we humbly continue to glorify the person and work of Christ, welcome neighbors into the love of God, and express a word and deed faith that truly matters in the lives of our members and neighbors. We are confident that, in the coming years, the Lord will continue to create this beautiful mosaic, by his Grace—and we are thrilled to invite you to join us on this journey.

Our Journey to a Permanent Home

Pursuing the Purchase of St. Paul’s Temple

  • Members of Mosaic's staff and longtime congregants have been praying over St. Paul's Temple since our move from Downtown in 2013. Now, we believe it may be God's provision for our future home—and we need your help.

  • St. Paul's is ideally located in the heart of Brookland and is composed of two buildings: a church building and a school building. These buildings total more than 55,000 square feet, which would meet our current critical need for more physical worship space. This increased space would also dramatically expand our capacity for programmatic offerings and increase our impact in our beloved community.

  • However, the entire property needs significant rehabilitation. This would be costly and long, but it would be well worth the funding and time needed to make it a church home. With your generosity, the acquisition of St. Paul's would involve both the purchase of the building and property and the renovation of the church and school buildings.

Building Together

The Church for the Church

We need your help to pursue the purchase and renovation of a new church home. After much prayer and discernment, we are launching a capital campaign, Building Mosaic, with a goal of raising $3.5-4 million. These funds will allow Mosaic to purchase and complete initial renovations for St. Paul’s church and school buildings. By God’s grace, this would enable Mosaic’s mission in Brookland to flourish anew in its very first fully owned building!

Your generosity is vital to taking this next step in our mission as a church. Will you help us create a generational impact in Washington, D.C. by giving to Building Mosaic today?

None of this would be possible without your heart to serve the Lord and care for his people in Northeast DC. We remain hopeful and expectant for all He will continue to do in and through Mosaic during this process.
