Serving The Sterling

THE STERLING SHORT TERM FAMILY HOUSING (STFH) provides emergency housing and comprehensive supportive services for 90 days to 46 families as they work with case workers toward stability. Services include intensive case management and employment support, counseling, parent education, life skills and ABE/GED instruction, housing searches, and employment. Read below for ways to serve!


Volunteers provide children and their families with learning and recreational activities. Grace Mosaic members have:

  • Donated hygiene products, school supplies, books and toys

  • Provided craft packets for families to complete together

  • Provided meals for families

  • Served at their Halloween party

  • Donated Thanksgiving grocery gift cards

  • Hosted their annual Christmas party

  • Hosted a monthly game night for parents and kids

Other ways to serve include: 

  • Volunteering with the Freedom School’s after-school program for Sterling children

  • Tutoring

  • Leading a read-aloud time for children

  • Provide and/or serve an evening meal to families

  • Plan and execute an enrichment activity for families to enable parents to enjoy fun time with their children

  • Help facilitate monthly birthday parties for children

Children are welcome to serve alongside their parents for many of these opportunities. Contact Melissa Huang for more information and to connect with other GMo members who serve regularly with The Sterling.

To start the process of getting involved:

  • Attend a volunteer training held virtually every first Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. Join here via Zoom. 

  • Fill out a volunteer interest form.
