Practical Suggestions for Justice & Mercy
Practice being a neighbor to those whom you come across. This is simple, yet transformative. As Jesus says at the end of the parable of the Good Samaritan: “Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.” (Luke 10:36–37)
If you are looking to help fight racism and promote cultural intelligence in the Church, we strongly suggest supporting the work of our Institute for Cross-Cultural Mission. This work is not done in the span of weeks but of years. That’s why the ICCM leads congregations through a 3-year long Cohort Program.
Get involved in local community organizations in our neighborhood and in our city. Establish regular rhythms and relationships of support and service.
If budgets are “moral documents” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), then what does your personal or household budget say about what you value? Allocate your budget and watch your heart follow, for “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt. 6:21).
Support and serve our partner organizations: DC127, The Sterling, and RUF @ Howard University.
Pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17).
